It has been a busy year both on and off the court for Gavin Valeri. After the 6’3” guard saw plenty of success on the court, he is now seeing it with his recruitment.
Last season, Valeri played a key role in helping Milwaukee Academy of Science win a state championship in his sophomore season. During the season he proved to be one of the top 2027 shooters in the area hitting 46.3% of his threes. His play has only continued to grow throughout the grassroots season while playing with Team Haliburton.
At the end of May, Valeri was able to receive his first division one offer which came from Southern Illinois Edwardsville. When asked about SIUE, Valeri said “I like that they were the first school to offer me. The head coach played at Marquette and recruits a lot of Wisconsin kids. Plus they made the NCAA Tournament, which is pretty cool.”
Then in August, Valeri added his second offer coming from Eastern Illinois. “I liked the coaches a lot,” he said about the Panthers. “I met them at their elite camp and got to check out the facilities. Getting pulled into the head coach’s office for the offer was surreal. I really wasn’t expecting it.”
In addition to his current pair of division one offers, the junior guard has seen interest from several others. This includes Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Western Illinois.
While Valeri has proven throughout the year his shooting ability, he sees his game as much more. “I’d say I have an all-around offensive game. A lot of people see me as just a shooter, but I can score in different ways. I’m also vocal on the court and try to be that glue guy for my team.” Next up in his junior season, Valeri is looking to make a trip once again to Madison and “bring home another gold ball for MAS.”
