On Wednesday, Illinois and Brad Underwood landed a commitment out of neighboring Iowa. This came from 6’8” rising senior forward Landon Davis of Waukee Northwest High School and Iowa United.
The commitment comes after the Illini just offered him over a month ago at the beginning of July. It was a stock boosting several months for Davis as he just picked up his first offer back in April of this year. He chose Illinois over his other offers coming from Drake, Northern Iowa, and UIC. The forward had also seen growing interest from several other high major programs.
“Because I believe I could be my best possible basketball self-there,” Davis told NY2LA Sports on why he chose Illinois over his other suitors. He called his visit there by far his favorite. “The place is insane.”
“I think my ability to get others in the game makes me a good fit there,” Davis said about his future on suiting up for the Illini. With Iowa United on the 3SSB this season, he averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. Back at the NY2LA Swish N’ Dish tournament in April to start the grassroots season, he averaged 9.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while helping Iowa United win the 17U tournament championship. Illinois is landing a highly skilled and versatile 6’8” forward with a strong frame who is highlighted by his outside shooting ability in addition to showing a growing perimeter game.
It has been a big few days for the Illinois program. Not only did they land Davis, but also get a commitment from Ethan Brown a week ago, a 6’4” guard out of Missouri.
