It has been a very busy several weeks in the recruitment of Owen VanderWaal. The 6’7” 2026 forward of Unity Christian High School and WM Premier has continued to build his recruitment. Most recently this included a few recent offers.
It started with an offer from Hope College back in May. Since then he has also added offers from Calvin University and most recently Spring Arbor University. “I love all the coaches and how they have built a culture with their team,” VanderWaal had to say about the trio of schools who have offered him.
“My spring season was a huge step in the right direction.” VanderWaal and the WM Premier have been a team to see this grassroots season. After some mixed results at the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza back in April which resulted in a 2-2 record, they stepped it up during the May live period. At the NY2LA Next Level Invitational, they were able to come away with an undefeated 4-0 tournament. “We have been playing against good teams and I have been playing my best basketball. I have grown a ton and have developed more as a versatile player,” he said about the spring season.
As well to the trio of offers, VanderWaal is receiving interest from colleges on multiple levels. Amongst the ones showing the most interest include Northern Michigan, Taylor, and Wayne State. He is planning on taking visits to all three schools which offered him as well as Northern Michigan soon.
“I look for a college that will invest in me not only as a player but as a person. Also, a team that plays together well and are well coached,” is what VanderWaal is looking for in his future basketball program.
