Over the past couple of years on NY2LA’s Generation Next Basketball Association, Semaji Pruitt has been one of the top players amongst the 2029 class players. This started back in 2023 with his play with the Brew City Pirates. This continued during this spring with Team Haliburton, and most with the Reagan Jr. Huskies at the NY2LA Thanksgiving Shootout last month.
Back at the GNBA Championships in June and at the Thanksgiving Shootout, all the skills of Pruitt were on full display as he was one of the top 2029 players at both tournaments. At each of the tournaments he was named a tournament stand out at his age group. This included helping lead the Reagan Jr. Huskies to the 14U semifinals at the Thanksgiving Shootout.
Over the past year and a half, both his skills and physical tools have quickly developed. This has allowed him to be a real force on both ends of the court consistently. His guard skills have come along way including his playmaking ability with the ball. He excels at attacking the basket with his physicality as his strength can be tough to match from opposing guards. As well to his strength, he maneuvers exceptionally well with the ball in tight space around the interior in addition to his good finishing ability. He is also a fluid guard who plays with plenty of aggressiveness allowing him to be a shutdown perimeter defender.
While he is still nearly a year out from the high school ranks, Pruitt already has a great combination of talents that is not often seen in the middle school level. He will be a highly intriguing guard to track as he moves onto high school next year.
