Our coverage has looked at some seniors and juniors in recent days and now is the sophomores turn. Here are five sophomore who are ready for breakout seasons.
Jimara Combs – 2027 – G – Culver Academy
Combs has only continued to impress on the court over the past year. She has consistently proven to be a knockdown outside shooter but is also a good playmaker off the dribble who moves well with the ball. With her skill set, high energy aggressive play, and feel, look for Combs to be getting on college coaches’ radars.
Kourtnie Halperin – 2027 – PG – Highland Park
In her freshman season, Halperin flashed a lot of good abilities and has grown upon that this fall. There are few sophomores in the area who can match all of her stellar point guard skills with her distributing ability, handle, court vision, and decision-making ability but is also effective creating for herself as well.
Maya Pereda – 2027 – G – Waubonsie Valley
Pereda has shown the ability to be one of the more well-rounded sophomore guards in the area. She is a skilled scorer who excels attacking the basket as well as shooting it from the outside but also has a good ability to run the point and create for others. Following her standout grassroots season with Mac Irvin Fire, look for her to have a big sophomore season.
Akyla Williams – 2027 – PF – Phillips Academy
There are a lot of different aspects to like from the game of Williams that has landed on division one coaches’ radars. She stands at 6’2” along with good strength but is also an agile forward with good footwork. Not only can she take over in the paint on both ends but also shown a growing all-around game. Alcorn State and Chicago State have already offered and look for that list to grow as the sophomore has a ton of upside.
