Starting with a standout grassroots season with the Illinois Wolves last year and now a big sophomore season at Barrington High School, Oliver Gray has started to see his recruitment start up. This includes drawing interest from a few division one programs and recently taking a visit to one of them.
Earlier this month, the 6’5” guard took a visit to Valparaiso University. “I enjoyed my Valpo visit,” Gray said. “It looks like a great environment to be in, and I liked the coaches a lot there, they are very well coached. I look forward to being in contact with them more.” While still early in his recruitment as a sophomore, Gray has also drawn some interest from Northern Iowa and Purdue.
“Shooting the ball,” is what Gray first said about describing his game. He is shooting 49% from three this high school season. “I’m not just a shooter though, I’m a three-level scorer. I can do a lot more than just scoring. I can impact the game in many more ways. I can pass well and read the game. I think I am a good defender, and I am working on my body and getting in the weight room every day.”
In his sophomore season at Barrington, Gray is averaging 17 points and 4 rebounds per game. On Friday, Gray and Barrington defeated Fremd to win a regional championship in the Illinois 4A state tournament with Gray scoring 11 points. The 21-5 Broncos will take on Stevenson next in the sectional semifinals on Tuesday.
