One of a few players from Illinois’ 2024 class to pick up their first division one offer this summer was Braylon Roman. Following a breakout season with Mid Pro Academy, the 6’4” point guard received the offer from Illinois State at the end of July.
From his play on the NY2LA Association over the spring and summer with Mid Pro Academy, Roman earned himself first team honors at the 16U level. “It went well for my whole team and we continued to get better as a team every tournament and it was a fun summer,” Roman said about his time this year with Mid Pro Academy.
“It was a cool feeling because I’ve always wanted to play college basketball,” he said about receiving his first offer. When talking about Illinois State, Roman said “I like the coaching staff. They’ve made it a priority to check in to see how me and my family are doing.” Following the offer, Roman took a visit to the nearby Missouri Valley Conference school. “I went to watch a practice and it was cool to see what a college practice looks like and what it takes to compete at that level.”
In addition to the Illinois State offer, Belmont, Bradley, Loyola-Chicago, and Miami (OH) are some of the other schools to have been in contact with Roman. Next up for his high school season, Roman is looking towards the ultimate goal of winning a state championship at Normal Community High School.
