Looking ahead to the 2024-25 season, NY2LA Sports breaks down the race in the Southern Lakes Conference…

THE FAVORITE – Westosha Central
The Falcons came up a bit short of expectations last season. However, they’re going to reload a bit behind one of the state’s top point guards and arguably the most gifted passer in Elijah Griffin (20.4 ppg). Central finished 17-8 overall last season and one game out of first place. Center Liam Lubkeman (13.0 ppg) also returns for his senior season, giving the Falcons a massive, 6-foot-10 player in the middle.
DARK HORSE – Waterford
This has a chance to be a sneaky good team in Division 2. Waterford went 15-10 in 2023-24 and won 10 games in a pretty good league. The Wolverines get two of their top three scorers back, a pair of fast-rising prospects in Caden Gustafson (17.2 ppg) and Jamison Beesley (11.9 ppg).
PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE

G Amare Hereford – Jr. – Beloit Memorial
G Caden Gustafson – Jr. – Waterford
G Jamison Beesley – Jr. – Waterford
C Liam Lubkerman – Sr. – Westosha Central
PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Elijah Griffin
Griffin was second in the Southern Lakes in scoring last season at 20.4 ppg. His 6.5 assists per game were also good enough for 14th in the state and best in the conference. Put the ball in Griffin’s hands and good things happen. Few players control and dictate a game as well as Griffin.
