THE FAVORITE – Kettle Moraine
The Lasers may not have won the Classic Eight last season, but Kettle Moraine did reach the state tournament for the second consecutive season and finished 25-4 overall. Will Stuckey is gone, but Roman Thompson (11.5 ppg) and Ben Bestor (8.6 ppg) are two of the most improved players in the state and will give KM one of the best backcourts in the greater Milwaukee area. Think you do have to question the depth though as the Lasers lost a lot of good pieces who were part of those back-to-back state tournament runs.
DARK HORSE – Arrowhead
If their guards make big strides, why not Arrowhead again? The Warhawks have run this league for some time now. Yes, Bennett Basich is now at Green Bay, but sophomores Trey Resch (8.7 ppg) and Blake Basich (5.0 ppg) are going to be really good players and got their feet wet last season. Senior forward A.J. Ohrmundt is also an underrated prospect ready for a bigger role. He’ll take the place of Jace Gilbert on the interior. With most of the Classic Eight Conference in rebuilding mode, Arrowhead shouldn’t fall off too much, if at all in terms of the final conference standings.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Roman Thompson
Thompson showed he could be “the guy” in AAU over the summer. A multi-dimensional, versatile scorer, Thompson averaged 11.5 ppg as a junior. At 6-foot-4, Thompson’s ability to invert himself in the offense and play in the post, gives opponents a lot of matchup problems.
BREAKOUT PLAYER – Trey Resch
Resch very well could move from a role player to the leading scorer for Arrowhead. As a freshman, he was asked to make 3’s off the bench. Resch delivered, averaging nearly nine points per game while shooting 42 percent from deep. Getting that freshman year out of the way, think you’ll see more from Resch in terms of someone that’s more physically ready to defend at this level and can handle pressure bringing the ball up the floor as well.
