The first night of action at the GNBA Championships showcased some incredible performances at the sixth grade level paced by guard Jalen Suggs of Team Sizzle who posted a triple double in an opening round victory. Here’s a look at Suggs and other 6th graders who impressed on Friday night in Wisconsin…
Jalen Suggs – 5-9 – SG – Team Sizzle
Suggs is no stranger to impressive stat lines. Through 8 GNBA games, Suggs was averaging 22 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4.4 steals per game. He topped those numbers on Friday when he tallied a triple-double with 21 points, 10 steals, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks against the Milwaukee Spartans. It was an impressive effort from the long and athletic wing.
Jai Mukraj – 6-0 – C – Kingdom Hoops
When a player goes 12 of 16 from the field, they had a good night. Add the fact that they also had 19 rebounds and it was an incredible game. That is exactly what Muraj did on opening night. He finished with 25 points and 19 rebounds as Kingdom Hoops took down the ET12 Buckeyes.
Jalen Johnson – 5-10 – PG – Wisconsin Playground Warriors
Johnson's feel for the game stood out more than his stat line on Friday but he put up very good numbers. He had 14 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals against the Wisconsin Swing. He created much of the offense for the Playground Warriors either with his great passing, defense or Johnson scoring himself.
Bowen Born – 5-5 – PG – Kingdom Hoops Elite
Players rarely have to share the spotlight when they tally 27 points, 7 steals and 5 assists but Muraj's effort was just as impressive. Born exploded from his normal 12 points per game that he was averaging over the first 8 GNBA games.
JaKobe Coles – 6-0 – F – Nebraska Hoops Elite
Coles is extremely versatile. His size and length gives him many advantages and his skill capitalizes on it. Coles had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals as his Nebraska Hoops Elite team beat the Illinois Rising Stars.
Nolan Dahmen – 6-2 – C – Wisconsin Playground Warriors
The legitimate 6-foot-2 Dahmen has a lot of upside to his game. He nearly had a double-double as he posted 8 points and 10 rebounds on Friday night. He is not just a tall player; he has basketball knowledge and skill.
Terry Lockett – 5-10 – PG – Team Sizzle
Lockett filled the stat sheet although he did not have any dominant category. Lockett is very good off the dribble with change of pace and direction moves. His feel for the game is off the charts for his age. He finished Friday night with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
A.J. Coons – 5-7 –SF – Iowa Barnstormers
The Iowa wing was very good on Friday night. Coons did a little bit of everything during opening night. He had a stat line of 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. He has a good base to his overall game.
Treyton Hurt – 5-5 – SF – Iowa Barnstormers
Another Iowa Barnstormers player that loaded up the stat sheet was Treyton Hurt. Hurt has been a solid performer throughout GNBA play and Friday night was no different. He put up 7 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals.
Miekyah Thomas – 5-6 – SG – KC Powergroup
Thomas helped push KC Powergroup by the Wisconsin Shooters with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals. Thomas was very efficient from the floor on Friday night. That is what allowed him to have a strong game for KC Powergroup.
