A flurry of late activity hit the wires on Sunday with a couple of huge commitments as the high school season started to swing into full gear.  That and information on the NY2LA Sports Classic this weekend, the new SUMMER SIZZLE tournament for girls next year, and more in today's news and notes...

Next year we offer up a new tournament exclusively for girls programs with the SUMMER SIZZLE set to tip-off June 3-5, 2010 inside the luxurious Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin.  The past couple of years we had combined this girls event with our NY2LA Sports Invitational in late May but not anymore as the late May event will be exclusively for boys teams while the SUMMER SIZZLE tournament will be open exclusively to girls 4th grade to 11th grade teams.  The tournament will feature a three (3) game guarantee with multi-team discounts available for programs bringing more than one team to the tournament.  With a complete focus on all the girls teams in attendance the SUMMER SIZZLE stands to heat up the summer circuit for girls programs with a host of quality programs already confirmed to attend.  For more information on the NY2LASPORTS.COM SUMMER SIZZLE tournament for girls June 3-5, 2011 CLICK HERE

Indiana struck big on the recruiting trail this past weekend as they landed two of the top 2013 prospects in the country in G/F Devin Davis of Warren Central H.S. (IN) and SF Collin Hartman of Cathedral H.S. (IN).  Both rank as top 50 prospects nationally after strong summers with the Eric Gordon All-Stars and Indiana Elite programs respectively.  Hartman turned in an electric shooting exhibition at the inagural NY2LASPORTS.COM Futures Camp this past summer and is regarded as one of the top pure marskmen in the country regardless of class.  These are both great gets for the Hoosiers who have landed verbal commitments from many of the top young prospects in the state of Indiana over the past couple of months.

Pittsburgh's 2011 class received a boost over the weekend as commit Khem Birch of Notre Dame Prep decided to re-classify up to a 2011 prospect and has reportedly signed with Pittsburgh now as a 2011 talent.  Birch was previously regarded as a top 10-15 prospect in the 2012 class and now sits at #15 on our board in the 2011 after re-classifying.  He played with the Expressions Elite program during the grassroots travel season.

Georgia Tech snuck in and landed a solid commitment from 2011 G Bobby Parks Jr., one of the top scoring talents in the class.  There were a number of rumors floating around about Parks possibly re-classifying and things of that nature but the Yellow Jackets secured a commitment from Parks over the weekend and his could be a huge grab as Parks can really score the basketball.  He played with the M33M program during the grassroots travel season.

2012 PG Kevin Ferrell of Park Tudor High School in Indiana is scheduled to announce his intentions later this week.  Ferrell also known as "Yogi" is regarded as one of the top lead guards in the 2011 class after a stellar spring/summer travel campaign with the Indiana Elite program.  Given the recent hot streak of the Indiana Hoosiers in keeping in-state talent at home, early indications are that Ferrell may go ahead and commit to the Hoosiers as well later this week.  As always we will update you when those intentions become clear.

A new holiday tournament for middle school prospects was announced last week as the 2011 Holiday Hoopfest will tip off January 1-2, 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  The inaugural tournament will feature separate elite and competitive divisions for 3rd-8th grade boys and girls.  The tournament will offer up a 3 game guarantee built around pool play and single elimination playoffs with customized individual trophies/medals and t-shirts awarded to all first and 2nd place teams in each division.  The tournament will offer up multi-team discounts as well.  It is open to grassroots travel teams, school feeder programs/teams, etc.  For more information on this upcoming event CLICK HERE
