Following a tremendous grassroots season with the Missouri Phenom, Elijah Poniewaz has continued to elevate his game in his sophomore season at Chaminade. With that, the guard is continuing to generate further college interest.
Back in the summer at the NY2LA Summer Jam tournament, Poniewaz averaged 22.5 points, 7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game to help the Missouri Phenom win the association championship. Now for Chaminade, he is averaging 14 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2 steals versus a national schedule to have them out to an 8-3 record currently.
Over the past year, Poniewaz has proven to be one of the top guards in Missouri’s 2028 class. He has continued to grow the number of division one programs recruiting him. Amongst these programs are Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska Omaha, Southeast Missouri State, Southern Illinois, and UW-Milwaukee. Back in the fall, he took visits to Austin Peay and Nebraska Omaha.
“My goals for the rest of the season are to win state, keep building chemistry with my teammates, be the best teammate and leader I can be, keep learning, and have fun playing the game I love,” Poniewaz said about his goals for the rest of the high school season.
