Marist versus Waukegan was one of the headlining games from Saturday’s Steve Pappas Shootout at DePaul Prep. In just the first quarter, Marist was able to jump out to a double-digit lead. However, Waukegan was able to quickly make a comeback early in the second quarter and the game remained tight throughout. In the final minutes, Marist was able to make a few more plays to grab the 57-51 win.

Charles Barnes – 2026 – SF – Marist

Barnes turned in a star performance in leading Marist to a win with a game high 21 points and 11 rebounds. He got off to a very quick start in the game with 9 first quarter points. Around the paint, the 6’6” wing forward could not be stopped from scoring it very efficiently. He has good length and explodes up to finish over and through defenders as well as grab rebounds. Barnes scored it strong on dump offs and put backs, the senior also scored it driving to the basket and hitting a three. He is one of the top available seniors in Illinois.

Ryan Lawlor – 2026 – SG – Marist

Lawlor made a ton of plays early on to give Marist a double-digit early. In the first quarter alone, he scored 5 points in addition to a pair of steals and block. He finished the game with 10 points but was just as impactful with his defensive play. The 6’3” two guard is an active and tough on ball defender who is tough to beat and made several key defensive plays throughout the game.

Jaali Love – 2026 – SF – Waukegan

Love scored an efficient 12 points in the game including scoring 6 points in a tight fourth quarter. The senior showed his offensive versatility hitting an 18-foot jumper as well to a turnaround fadeaway jumper in the low post. He has tremendous length and at 6’6” with his athleticism can get all over opposing ballhandlers in addition to defending multiple positions effectively. This was shown early in the game with a steal pulling the ball right away from his man utilizing his length.

Kendall Meyers – 2027 – SF – Marist

Meyers is a highly active 6’6” forward who made a ton of plays in this win. He added in 13 points helping Marist but also made a ton of plays defensively. He was so active on the defensive side plus showed his ability to defend in the paint as well as on the perimeter. This included blocking multiple shots in the game. He showed his physicality powering right through defenders driving to the basket and hit a three. In the final minute, Meyers put the game away with a put back basket. The junior currently holds offers from SIUE and Northern Illinois.

Carter Newsome – 2026 – PG – Waukegan

The senior is a quick point guard with tight handle. He moves very well with the ball beating defenders often getting into the paint in this game. Newsome finished the game with 11 points including a finish off a drive in plenty of traffic plus went 5-5 from the free throw line. On the defensive side, he used his quickness to pressure the ball in the half court, collected multiple steals, and took a charge.
