This matchup featured two of the top teams in all of Wisconsin. This included the defending division two state champions Wauwatosa West traveling to take on Waterford. While Wauwatosa West held a lead for the majority of this game, it was some heroics from Caden Gustafson and Waterford in the end to get the 59-56 victory. Star junior Jalen Brown battled foul trouble throughout this game playing limited minutes.
Jayce Brechtl – 2026 – F/C – Waterford
Brechl may have not had a huge stat line in the game, but way a key piece in the win. This was especially the case as he drilled a corner three with just 27 seconds to go in the game to tie it all up. He may have only scored 8 points but did so very efficiently on 3-5 shooting. He hit a pair of threes in the game but also showed his ability to put the ball on the floor and score it posting up with his strong build. He was also key with his interior defensive blocking several shots and altering even more.
Bear Collins – 2029 – G – Wauwatosa West
There aren’t many freshmen starting for defending state champion teams, but Collins is not only doing it but excelling in his role. He had an extremely quick start to the game scoring baskets on both his team’s second and third possessions to build them a 7-0 lead. The guards biggest impact came from his shooting. Collins went 5-8 from the outside proving his knockdown shooting ability. Even as a freshman, he is extremely confident when spotting up from three and always ready to catch and shoot it.
Caden Gustafson – 2026 – G – Waterford
While he was limited in the first half, Gustafson came alive down the stretch to help his team to the win. He came up with the biggest play of the game hitting a deep buzzer beating three to break a tie and get the win. On the previous play, he also came up with the defensive stop with a tough contest on a mid-range jumper. In the final minutes he also hit a couple of other threes and clutch pair of free throws. The Northern Michigan commit finished with a game high 22 points hitting four threes in addition to shots in the mid-range for the skilled shot making guard.
Matthew Kloskey – 2026 – SF – Wauwatosa West
The versatile senior has continued to grow his game to be able to do a bit of everything on the court. Defending inside and out, scoring on the attack, hitting jumpers, getting to the free throw line often, forcing several turnovers, Kloskey was consistently making plays. The Green Bay commit finished this game with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. He showed improved ability off the dribble with good moves getting to the basket as well as hitting shots off the dribble. He also showed his physicality powering right through defenders to the basket. With his toughness and active play, he was often getting himself to the line and making it count going 10-12.
Colin Lepisto – 2026 – PG – Waterford
Lepisto had a standout first half scoring 9 of his 12 points to keep the game close. He shot the ball well in the game both from three and in the mid-range as well to running the point well handling plenty of ball pressure, but his biggest impact may have come from his energy. Whether it was on defense or on the glass, Lepisto is a true competitor who was out working everyone on the court. Even as a guard, he was outrebounding forwards in the paint. His energy was also clear coming up with 4 steals showing great anticipations in the passing lanes.
Chris Tessmer – 2026 – F – Waterford
In the first half alone, Tessmer scored 12 points. He stands at 6’5” and was battling in the paint for some tough baskets and rebounds. He is very aggressive in the paint, especially rebounding the ball right away from opponents in tons of traffic. He also scored it attacking the basket and with a mid-range jumper. Tessmer finished the game with a near double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds.
