Plenty of players in the 2028 to watch as they move into their sophomore season. Here is the next group up.
Jack Fabian – 2028 – SG – Benet
What first stands out from the game of Fabian is his tremendous athleticism. He is an incredibly bouncy guard but has also shown a growing skill set and a high basketball IQ. He excels at getting to the basket including being a good cutter but has also shown the ability to shoot it off the dribble from the outside. Will be a breakout name to know for college coaches.
Caden Hagerstrom – 2028 – F – Wrightstown
Over the course of his grassroots season with the Wisconsin Blizzard, Hagerstrom was a highly impactful player already who also showed great upside. This was especially the case at the NY2LA Final Chapter tournament in July where he was one of the top players at the 15U level. He already has good size at 6’6” and length to be an effective interior scorer as well to the ability to handle the ball and play out on the perimeter as well.
Charlie Lappin – 2028 – PG – Glenbrook North
It was a breakout grassroots season for Lappin who was one of the top 2028-point guards on the 3SGB. He is a highly skilled playmaker with the ball in his hands with a very good ability to create for himself while also being able to run the point. Lappin has proven a good ability to get into the paint as well to being able to shoot it off the dribble plus has good court awareness. Just starting his sophomore season, Lappin has a very good array of skills to his game.
Brayden Smith – 2028 – SG – Elkhart Lake-Glenbulah
Even as a freshman, Smith made an immediate impact at the high school level as he averaged 13.1 points. Much of his scoring came from the outside as he hit 91 threes in the season while shooting a staggering 45% from the outside. His hot shooting continued into the grassroots season with Mammoth Basketball but also showed growth with his playmaking off the dribble. He was one of the top scorers of the entire NY2LA Summer Jam tournament while averaging over 20 points per game.
Roosevelt Thomas – 2028 – G – De La Salle
Thomas has continued to play at a high level over the past year. This includes making the top 30 game at the Pangos All Midwest Camp recently this fall. While just a sophomore, he already has a strong build and plays with great physicality in addition to being 6’3”. With this he is highly effective attacking the basket, on the glass, defending multiple positions as well to knowing how to play. Look for Thomas to have a huge season for De La Salle.
