We have talked plenty about the 2026 and 2027 players in the Midwest. Now it is time to move onto the 2028 class and cover those who are next up.
Ryan Dieleman – 2028 – F/C – Sioux Falls Christian
While still early in his high school career, the post out of South Dakota has plenty to like from his game. He proved to be one of the top 2028 big men back at the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza with Team Warwick. Not only is he 6’9” with some strength and good footwork but is an impactful player on both ends with his big motor and growing game. He is an extremely tough rebounder and finisher with his physical tools and toughness and already shows a good ability score with his back to the basket. Dieleman is also a mobile big man whether playing in the pick and roll, defending the paint, or running the floor.
Cade McGowan – 2028 – SF – Wisconsin Lutheran
The wing has shown the ability to do a bit of everything. He is at his best playing on the attack using both his moves and physicality to get to the basket often. Not only can McGown score the ball in bunches on the attack but he also rebounds very well for his size, creates for others, can shoot from the outside, and is able to defend both guards and wings effectively. McGowan had a standout grassroots season with Jay Academy and look for that to translate into his sophomore high school season.
McCoy Michael – 2028 – PG – Sheboygan Lutheran
Over the course of the grassroots season, Michael was one of the more impactful point guards at the 15U level of the NY2LA Association helping Chapman North to some undefeated tournaments. He is a high energy lead guard that was consistently making plays on both ends of the floor. This included being an incredibly tough on ball defender who plays with great passion defensively. Michael can also get into the paint and create for himself and teammates, is a consistent outside shooter, and just makes a ton of high energy plays.
Kameron Shannon – 2028 – F – Orchard Lake St. Mary’s
Shannon showed a ton of upside this past summer while playing with the Reach Legends. He already has the physical tools standing at 6’8” along with his great length. He is a rangy forward who can be a true rim protector blocking shots and covering a lot of space around the paint defensively. Shannon also plays with good energy running the floor and scoring in transition while also showing some offensive tools being able to face up to the basket and score.
Grant Smith – 2028 – G/F – Lyons Township
Smith is one of the higher upside players in Illinois’ 2028 and is just poised for a breakout sophomore high school season. He had a strong grassroots season on the EYBL with the Meanstreets averaging 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks. As well to having some size on the wings at 6’6”, he has a good skill set to go along with it plus his great athleticism. This includes a versatile offensive skill set including being able to shoot the three well.
