Minnesota State was able to land one of the top available seniors from Wisconsin. This came from Bryce Ott, a 6’6” wing of Oshkosh North High School and the Wisconsin Playmakers.
The coaching staff played a large role in the commitment of Ott along with a few other aspects. “A few of the main things that I really liked were number one, the coaches. Coach Margenthaler has been there in twenty-five years along with Coach Schott. Then also the culture, it’s a very winning culture and a competitive program. In the school, it’s a very big school with lots of support for athletics,” Ott said about his decision. The winning culture of Minnesota State that he mentioned includes them winning the division two national championship in the 2024 season.
The commitment of Ott comes after he visited Minnesota State back in early September. “I went up on a Saturday during a football game and it was by far the best visit that I’ve had, the school, facilities and university feeling was unlike any other school I toured. And also, the support from the school at the football game and tailgates was crazy.”
Minnesota State had offered a couple of weeks prior to the visit in August. Also offering Ott was Drury, Northern Michigan, and Upper Iowa. Ott was also a highly sought-after quarterback receiving offers from both division one and two football programs.
In his junior season at Oshkosh North, Ott averaged 13.2 points and 6 rebounds in helping them reach the state semifinals. “I feel that my game will fit in very well with their concept and program,” Ott said about his future playing for Minnesota State. They run a very position-less offense and that kind of fits me, but also I feel like my scrappy play style will fit in with them as well.”
