Earlier this week, senior Luke Bauer announced his college commitment. The 6’6” wing of New Berlin Eisenhower High School (WI) and CBA South will be headed to Dakota State next year.
There were a variety of aspects that drew Bauer to choosing the South Dakota school. “What really drew me to Dakota State University was the incredible culture surrounding the team and coaching staff. From the start, I felt the strong sense of family within the program. The coaching staff is committed to developing players both on and off the court, and I truly believe they’ll help me excel into a next level athlete and evolve personally.” The academics also played a huge role in the decision, “Dakota State offers strong programs that align perfectly with my long-term goal of becoming a sports medicine physical therapist.” Lastly on his pick, Bauer stated “the tight-knit community in Madison, South Dakota stands out. The community support is amazing, and the team gives back in meaningful ways. All of this truly makes Dakota State feel like home.”
The commitment comes just a few days after Bauer took his second visit out to Dakota State. He initially visited back in July and once again last Thursday for their opening game of the season. “That trip gave me a real feel for the culture and the team. On the first day, I got to know the coaching staff off the court, and on the second day, I saw how they operate on the court. It was great to experience both sides and see how genuine and committed they are,” Bauer said about his first visit. “That second visit solidified everything for me. Seeing the school in action and spending more time with future teammates and coaches confirmed my decision.”
In his recruitment, Bauer saw interest from a long list of programs coming from the division two, three, and NAIA levels. Prior to his commitment, he made visited to thirteen different colleges. “Ultimately, Dakota State stood out as the place where I could thrive both on and off the court; athletically and academically,” he said about his decision in selecting Dakota State over his other suitors.
Bauer had a breakout grassroots season with CBA South over the past spring and summer. On the NY2LA Association, the versatile wing averaged 11.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. “Coach Williamson’s system at Dakota State is built around high-pressure, high-intensity defense and strong team-oriented offense. That style fits me perfectly. I love playing aggressive defense, and I see myself contributing with my length, speed, and strength to help disrupt opponents and energize our team,” Bauer said about his game fitting in at Dakota State.
