Over just the past several days, a pair of players from Team Herro announced their commitments to prominent high major programs. The commitments came from Dooney Johnson followed by Vaughn Karvala.
While only a junior, Johnson has made his college commitment early. The 6’5” guard of Milwaukee Juneau made his commitment to Gonzaga and head coach Mark Few. Over the past few years, Johnson has consistently proven to be one of the most productive players in the nations 2027 class. He earned all-state honors from the WBCA as a sophomore while averaging 25.5 points and 8.2 rebounds. Then with Team Herro on the EYBL, he averaged 12.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. The guard is ranked as high as 17th nationally by Rivals in his 2027 class. This is in addition to 28th by ESPN and 41st by 247 Sports. He chose Gonzaga over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, LSU, Marquette, Missouri, Oklahoma State, SMU, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Washington, Wisconsin, among others. The commitment came just following Johnson’s official visit out west to Gonzaga.
Then just a few days later, Karvala also announced his commitment, which was made to Indiana. The 6’7” senior wing plays for Bella Vista Prep in Arizona after previously attending Oregon High School in Wisconsin. In his junior season at Oregon, Karvala averaged 26.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.2 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game. Then on the EYBL with Team Herro, the wing averaged 14.7 points and 4.3 rebounds. The commitment comes just a few days after he announced his top three which also included Cal and Xavier in addition to the Hoosiers. Indiana is landing a consensus top fifty prospect nationally in the 2026 class who is ranked as high as 30th by ESPN.
