We’re checking-in on 2020 Purdue commit Jaden Ivey from nationally ranked LaPorte La Lumiere.  Many may know his mother Niele Ivey, who was the associate head coach for Notre Dame and is now impressively an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA.  Jalen though has made quite the name for himself and Rivals puts him as a 4-star recruit and as the 18th best at his position in the nation.

His journey began at Mishawaka Marian (IN) where he played up until his senior campaign where he made the transfer to La Lumiere.  This 6’4” guard averaged nearly 25 points-per-game while at Marian.  ESPN lists Ivey as the top recruit in Indiana and the 11th best at his position in the nation.

On playing at La Lumiere, “This season is going to prepare me best for Purdue and I think this program I am at I am going to focus more on the defensive end and offensive end but I’m going to have to play defense when I get to Purdue.  It’s just taking pride on defense the coaches here stress that a lot you’ve got to play every possession hard on defense”.  Jaden was very impressed with Coach Painter during the recruiting process, “Yeah he’s a great coach you see him on the sideline and how he coaches and directs all the players on the court.  He’s just a great genuine coach he took the time to come to my games early in the year.  I just saw that and really noticed that and that was something I really wanted in a coach just to have a bond and a great relationship”.

Last summer Jaden played for the Indy Heat on the Nike EYBL circuit.
