One of the more sought after small school forwards in the Midwest is Alex Stauffer. The senior is a 6’7” power forward at Northridge High School and played with the Indy Heat program. Stauffer has a good combination of size, strength, and talent to make a big impact on the floor.

The senior has a strong scoring ability from the inside as well as out on the perimeter. He can spot up from three and knock shots down at a high percentage. Down on the inside he scores well with his back to the basket with impressive post moves plus his strong frame. Even with his impressive scoring ability, Stauffer talked about something else for the strengths of his game, “I excel as a leader along with having a very high motor.” While he already has a solid all-around game, there are a couple things he would like to improve upon, “It would never hurt to be a little more stronger and faster but I’d also like to develop my ball handling.”

With all his talents, he has drawn a great deal of interest from college coaches on multiple levels. Stauffer has received scholarship offers from several Div. 2 and NAIA schools including Asbury, Goshen, Grace, Huntington, Indiana-South Bend, Northern Michigan, Roosevelt, and Saginaw Valley State. As well he has interest from Hope, Indiana Wesleyan, Kalamazoo, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Trine, University of Dallas, among a few others. He sees a decision on his future college coming very soon, “I would like to commit before Christmas but that can be setback if I’m not one hundred percent ready.”

While Stauffer is not too interested in either the location or size of his future school, there is one particular thing he truly does care about. “I’m looking for a college where I will develop not only on the court the next four years but a college that will develop me into a better man for the next fifty years.”

So far, this year Stauffer has found a great deal of success on and off of the court. While the season has just started he is averaging a double-double which includes a 16 point, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists performance against Westview High School. In the classroom, he has achieved a 3.87 GPA to go with an 1160 SAT score.

Before he makes a commitment, he does have a couple of visits planned in the near future to Indiana Wesleyan and Mount Vernon Nazarene. With his tentative commitment timeline quickly coming up, Stauffer’s recruitment will be an interesting one to track over the next few weeks.
