One of the more talented and high scoring junior guards in the state of Illinois is Lincoln Park High School’s Ismail Habib. He had a breakout sophomore year and continued that this past summer with Team Rose.

Habib is a dynamic playmaker on the court. He is lighting quick with the basketball and can score it in a variety of ways. He blows by defenders with ease to get inside and create. The crafty scoring guard also does a nice job of knocking down jumpers from all over the court off the dribble.

His strong play has started to get the attention of plenty of college coaches from all across the nation. UIC became the first school to offer him a scholarship back in August. Some of the other schools that have been recruiting him the hardest include Florida Atlantic, Holy Cross, Tulsa, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Youngstown State.  When talking about what he may look for in his future college, Habib said “I’m just looking to go to a college where I’ll fit in right away and be comfortable playing my game.”

The guards success this season has gone way beyond just scoring early on. So far in the young high school season Habib is averaging 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, to go along with 21 points per game. Even with his strong play there was one specific thing he would like to work on. “I just want to improve on distributing better and getting my teammates better shots,” Habib stated. For this season, he told us that he is “focused on mainly winning and leading my team.”

Habib had one last thing he wanted to mention for this season, “I’m coming for everyone this year…I want it this year and this is my first year feeling healthy with my ankle fully recovered from past injuries so just don’t be surprised if you see me with that Mr. Basketball.”
