Over the summer between the high school and travel team periods many players took their game to a new level. Here are five seniors from the state of Illinois that saw their game and recruitment soar.

Matthew Ambrose – 6-4 – 2020 – SG – Stevenson HS (IL)
Whether he was playing for his high school team or Quad City Elite, Ambrose was a big scoring threat that knew how to win games. The 6’4” wing guard has great range from well beyond the arc plus also has the ability to pull up in the mid-range and get to the basket. His big summer started by winning MVP at the Riverside-Brookfield Shootout defeating Curie and Whitney Young in the semifinal and championship games. His success continued in July with Quad City Elite as he led them to the 17u title at the NY2LA Summer Jam. He has become one of the more sought-after Division 2 recruits in the Midwest receiving offers from Indianapolis, Lewis, McKendree, St. Cloud State, and Winona State.

Connor Kochera – 6-4 – 2020 – G/F – St. Viator HS (IL)
After playing behind two Division 1 recruits during his junior high school season in Jeremiah Hernandez and Trey Calvin, this was finally Kochera’s time to shine. All summer Kochera showcased his strong scoring ability. While he has been a knockdown shooter for some time, Kochera greatly improved his ability to attack the basket. Kochera parlayed his breakout summer into earning offers from schools nationwide including Lipscomb, Penn, South Dakota, UC-Davis, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, among several others. Since then the rising senior wing has committed to William & Mary.

Connor Linke – 6-9 – 2020 – C – St. Charles North HS (IL)
The senior post has continued to improve his game over the past year and it finally paid off big this summer. An intriguing player with his 6’9” height and solid frame. He excels on the defensive end where he is a quality rim protector as well to being able to rebound the basketball at a high rate. On the offensive end, he has nice touch from the mid-range plus can score with his back to the basket. Linke received offers from Army, Cal Poly, North Dakota, and UC-Davis during the summer.

Martice Mitchell – 6-10 – 2020 – PF – Bloom HS (IL)
While already a sure-fire Division 1 prospect early in his high school career, Mitchell took his game to another level this summer. He is a lanky 6’10” forward with a high skill level that can play around the basket or out on the perimeter. There are very few high schoolers around at his height that shoot the ball as well from the perimeter and mid-range but can just as easily take defenders off the dribble. Mitchell has great athleticism and mobility to go along with his size and skills. With all of his tools Mitchell has received high major offers from Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Xavier over the summer.

Armond Williams – 6-9 – 2020 – PF – East St. Louis HS (IL)
While a part of an Illinois state championship team during his junior season, this summer Williams started to make some noise for himself. A lanky and athletic 6’9” forward with tons of upside. Williams plays with a lot of energy and contributes well on both ends of the court. Has natural shot blocking ability but can also defend opposing forwards on the perimeter. On offense, the senior scores the ball well around the basket and finishes strongly through contact. Williams secured his first two offers over the summer from Southeast Missouri State and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, expect more to roll in during his senior year.
