Madison East defeated Middleton (1-1) 62-43 at home Thursday night in Big 8 Conference play behind 21 pts from Junior guard Anthony Washington to improve to 3-0 for the season.

East got out to a hot start, leading 14-5 early behind strong play from 2020 F Marcus Justice and 2019 PG Montae Thompson. Middleton used a zone defense to slow down the tempo and ran some really good sets for open threes, climbing back into the game and cutting the lead to 26-22 at the half.

Madison East turned up the intensity in the 2nd half, and Anthony Washington showed why he is one of the top prospects in the 2020 class, scoring 9 straight points to open the half – attacking the rim and knocking down perimeter jumpers. From there East dominated the rest of the game, turning Middleton over and getting out in transition for easy baskets. Washington finished the game with 21 pts 4 reb and 3 ast, including 2 big time dunks late in the game to end any chance of a Middleton comeback.

Marcus Justice (12 pts, 8 reb, 4 ast) and 2021 6’5 F Jevan Boyton (11 pts, 8 reb) were impressive for East in the win and 2020 G Keonte Jones provided a spark off the bench for the Purgolders, finishing with 7 points and 3 steals.

6’5 Senior Forward Jake Klubertanz led Middleton with 12 pts in the loss.
