Wisconsin Scholars defeated Mac Irvin Fire

A star-studded field, few would have predicted that the Flavien Davis-led Wisconsin Scholars would have been the last team standing at such a loaded event. Scholar guard Steve McWhorter was sensational all weekend long and combined with Davis to provide a formidable 1-2 punch all weekend.  The Scholars play excellent all weekend long including an eye opening victory on Saturday night over the Indiana Elite that catapulted them into Championship Sunday where they took home the ship amongst a solid field of competition.

Logan Irwin and Glenn Robinson led travel power Spiece Northwest to the 15u title with contributions from John Eckert and Jordyn Coon. Irwin continues to rise as one of the premier guards in an Indiana 2012 class that should be deeper than any in recent memory. Meanwhile, Robinson’s play from the wing provided the crucial versatility that allowed the Spiece squad to exploit opponents on the way to the championship.

Indiana Elite defeated Mac Irvin Fire

Combo forward Colin Hartman made our short list on Saturday after leading his team past Mac Irvin Fire in pool play and was at it again Sunday, leading his Indiana Elite squad to an exciting tournament championship. Hartman may be the premier rising freshman talent in the Hoosier State and certainly emerged on the NY2LA Sports national recruiting radar with his production throughout the weekend.

DTA Running Rebels defeated Chicago Select

DTA grabbed the 13U championship with a statement victory over the Chicago Select after advancing past their interstate rivals Playground Elite in the semi-finals.  The semi-final matchup between the two teams continued to go back and forth with excellent matchups every time out and this one was much of the same.  DTA turned up their defense inside the final 4 minutes and really created difficult shots for the Playground Elite, which proved to be the difference.  They followed that up by hitting key free throws and attacking the rim and were able to pull away in the final 4 minutes to advance to the ship.

The championship was much of the same as DTA continued with a strong balanced attack and solid execution as they outlasted the tough Chicago Select squad to grab the 13U championship.  This was arguably DTA's strongest performance of the spring after a number of near misses and they continue to establish themselves as one of the premiere 13U teams around in what is a loaded 2014 class in the state of Wisconsin.
