One of the Midwest’s top up prospects in 2019, Belleville (Ill.) West forward E.J. Liddell has been busy this fall. Taking four unofficial visits prior to his junior season with a fifth upcoming, Liddell is getting a feel for some of the programs prioritizing him at this time.

Illinois: “I met the new coach (Brad Underwood). I’ve been there before, but I got to watch practice. I like his coaching style.”

Iowa: “Their atmosphere was great. They have one of the best stadiums I’ve ever seen. I really liked their campus and the gym. They showed me videos of their atmosphere and I know one of their players, Tyler Cook. He said he really likes it there.”

Kansas State: “I went to the football game and I loved their fans. It’s purple everywhere there. They love their team. It’s a rural area and everyone is a Kansas State fan.”

Missouri: “Coach Cuonzo Martin, I love the way he talks. He’s really good personality. I got to talk with Michael Porter and some other players. Love the campus. I just love the atmosphere at Missouri.”

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward has other offers from Iowa State, DePaul, Marquette, St. Louis, and more.  Liddell will return to Iowa on Oct. 7 for another unofficial visit. He’s also picking up interest from North Carolina State, Purdue, Michigan, and others.

“I got off the phone with Purdue on Thursday,” he said. “They said they want to get me on campus.  Michigan has really good interest in me. They said they really like my game. I’ve spoken with the head coach (John Beilein) multiple times.”

Liddell lists no early leaders. His timeline for a decision is also open-ended.  “It doesn’t matter how far away I go from home, it just has to be the right place for me,” he said.

Liddell plays with Bradley Beal Elite during the travel season.
