Big strong interior prospects are a commodity in any class and a handful of potential sleepers are emerging in the 2018 class both regionally and nationally. One such talent is Joe Hedstrom, a standout at Hopkins (MN) who is quietly becoming a force on the courts in Minnesota.
Standing a legit 6-10 plus and weighing over 225 pounds, Hedstrom is a solid physical presence in the paint on both ends of the court. Not afraid to mix it up, Hedstrom runs the floor well, attacks the glass, and he asserts his physical tools when needed without hesitation. Equipped with a plus length reach and solid instincts, Hedstrom can alter shots and make his presence felt defensively in disruptive fashion. Offensively his skill package is still developing with his best basketball in front of him. That being said he has a solid jump hook with either hand and he has solid hands and footwork that make for easy scores in terms of put backs or catch and finishes around the basket both in transition and off of dribble penetration in half court sets.
Hedstrom holds offers from North Dakota, North Dakota State, Denver, and most recently South Dakota. A solid physical prospect in all facets, Hedstrom is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential but the big man is already firmly established as a legitimate Division 1 prospect who should see lots of attention in the coming months as he continues to develop.
Hedstrom will play with the Minnesota Comets Elite during the grassroots travel season.
