One of the top snipers in the EYBL, Edina (Minn.) DeLaSalle 2018 shooting guard Gabe Kalscheur holds four scholarship offers going into his junior season. One of those, Minnesota, gave Kalscheur his first high major offer over the summer. On Saturday, Kalscheur will visit the Gophers, a team he’s keeping tabs on this season.
“I like the makeup of their team,”Kalscheur told NY2LA Sports. “They have a lot of young, up and coming players. They’re building a young, athletic team for the future. I
definitely like that.”
Kalscheur has other offers from Drake, North Dakota, and Northern Iowa. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound shooting guard took trips to Drake and Northern Iowa this fall.
Drake: “I really like their academics. Their coaching staff is really nice. I liked hanging out with them when I was there.”
Northern Iowa: “I like how close they are with my family. The players are really cool. They reached out to me during practice and introduced themselves.”
Marquette, Wisconsin, Creighton, and Arkansas are showing interest in Kalscheur this fall. Kalscheur also checked out Arkansas in October.
“It was crazy,” said Kalscheur. “It was great to be in a SEC environment. There was a lot of tailgating, the atmosphere and the culture was really different than any other places I’ve been to.”
Playing up a level in the Nike EYBL last spring/summer, Kalscheur contributed 7.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore. Kalscheur claims no early leaders at this time in his recruitment.
“I’m going to play out next summer,” he said. “I’m looking for a place that my mom feels comfortable and knows I’ll be taken care of. A place that can make me into a better player. Also a community and an atmosphere that can help me grow on and off the court.”
Kalscheur plays with Howard Pulley during the travel season.
