The 2016 NY2LA Sports Invitational tips off on Friday. Featuring a strong group of Midwest travel programs vying for the title, the Invitational should prove to be an exciting three days of basketball. It all gets started on opening night as a number of the top teams in the field will match up to kick off the action.

17U Division
Playground Elite vs. Illinois Stars IBA – 7:40 PM – Court 2 – Homestead HS

Two high profile NY2LA Association teams square off on opening night. Rising wing Terrence Lewis and his running mate Alou Dillon form a strong 1-2 punch in the frontcourt. Under the radar guard P.J. Pipes will look to continue to carry the Illinois Stars in an intriguing battle. 

Wisconsin Playground Warriors vs. Mercury Elite Thomas – 7:40 PM – Court 3 – Homestead HS
Wisconsin commit Kobe King and guard Luke Loewe lead the Playground Warriors into an opening night showdown with Mercury Elite. The Playground Warriors also have a number of under the radar players including Tyree Eady and Will Chevalier to keep tabs on. Mercury Elite features rising point guard Tai Bibbs, who’s an electrifying scorer and passer.

Wisconsin Swing vs. Chicago Lockdown – 8:45 PM – Court 2 – Homestead HS
Two more NY2LA Association programs form another intriguing opening night matchup. The trio of Alex Arians, Chris Knight, and Ryan Krueger are all Division 1 prospects for the Swing, who have won a ton of games this spring. Versatile forward Connor Niego and Chicago Lockdown will try and slow them down. 

16U Division
Wisconsin Playground Warriors vs. Howard Pulley – 9:50 PM – Court 2 – Homestead HS

This one features a very good matchup at the point guard spot. Howard Pulley’s Ryan Larson is one of the best unknown floor generals in the Midwest. He’ll get a chance to face off against Jordan McCabe of the Playground Warriors. Without Tyler Herro in action, other players such as Adam Trapp, Keshawn Justice, John Diener, and Jack Plumb will get more of a chance to shine in this one. 

Wisconsin Swing vs. Illinois Irish – 9:50 PM – Court 3 – Homestead HS
The guards will likely determine the outcome of this opening night battle. The Illinois Irish feature Bailey Dee, a strong, quick guard who can cause mismatch problems with his ability to score in and out. The Swing feature a 1-2 punch of Mason Steffen and Mitch Listau, who both hold multiple Division 1 offers. 

Wisconsin United vs. Martin Bros. – 9:50 PM – Court 5 – Homestead HS
Proving to be one of the best travel teams in the country, Wisconsin United seems to compete for a title in every tournament they participate in. Tyrese Haliburton, Keontae White, and Carlos Curtis form an explosive trio in the backcourt that overwhelms most teams. Martin Bros. will counter with guard Matt Mims and 6-foot-11 center Jason Taylor. 

15U Division
Ray Allen Select vs. Chicago Select – 6:35 PM – Court 3 – Homestead HS

In the midst of a huge spring, Marcus Domask leads Ray Allen Select into a big matchup with Chicago Select. Domask isn’t alone as point guard Cole Nau and others have shown the ability to carry the load. Chicago Select will prove to be a strong challenge, usually fielding some of the best hidden talent in the area. 

Butler Elite vs. Howard Pulley – 9:50 PM – Court 1 – Homestead HS
Butler Elite has a loaded lineup a featuring touted 2019 forward Nobal Days. They also have a plethora of guards, including Demonta Hudson, who relentlessly attack and pressure all game. With a strong lineup and some of the best up and coming talent in Minnesota, Howard Pulley will give them a run for their money on opening night.
