Wisconsin landed their third commitment in the class of 2015 Tuesday night when Clarksville (Md.) River Hill power forward Charlie Thomas pulled the trigger for the Badgers.

Thomas, a strong interior presence with a knack for blocking shots and controlling the glass, picked Wisconsin for its family-like atmosphere.

“The coaching staff treated me like family,” Thomas told NY2LA Sports. “I really liked the players. It just felt like the best fit. It just felt like a family.”

Thomas chose Wisconsin over DePaul, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, and a host of mid-major schools.

Speaking with head coach Bo Ryan and assistant coach Lamont Paris Tuesday night, the 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward said Wisconsin’s coaching staff had a simple message for him.

“Coach Ryan said ‘Welcome aboard Charlie,” Thomas laughed. “He was excited. Coach Paris was excited too. They said this is just the beginning.”

Thomas joins Alex Illikainen (Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Brevin Pritzl (De Pere, Wis.) in Wisconsin’s 2015 recruiting class.

A junkyard dog of sorts on the basketball court, Thomas plans to carry that mentality with him to Wisconsin.

“I just want to play hard,” he said. “I know it will be difficult as a freshman to adjust. But I’m not looking for a major role. I just want to give it all I got.”

Thomas played for DC Premier during the travel season.
