2010 #3 DeShaun Thomas
2010 #4 Jared Sullinger
2010 #5 Harrison Barnes
The 2010 class is again loaded with talent nationally and while guys like Brandon Knight, Reggie Bullock, and DeShaun Thomas have grabbed headlines for months now, it's breakout phenoms like Harrison Barnes, Jelan Kendrick, Melvin Tabb, and Russell Byrd who caught our eyes this past year. With the July "live" evaluation period right around the corner, it seems like a perfect time to drop our updated player rankings for the Class of 2010 as we begin rankings week for NY2LASports.com.
Here's a quick look at the new Top 10...Subscribers can read the expanded Top 75 here
NY2LASports.com #1 - Brandon Knight - 6'3" PG Pine Crest (FL) - Team Breakdown
Flat out gets it done. Long, athletic, multi-skilled explosive talent who can take over the game in a number of ways. Combines with #2 Class of 2009 Kenny Boynton to form the #1 backcourt on the Grassroots travel circuit. Exceptional prospect on and off the floor. The total package.
NY2LASports.com #2 - Reggie Bullock - 6'6" SG Kinston H.S. (NC) - CP3 All-Stars
Silky smooth multi-skilled talent who brings to mind comparisons of one Jesus Shuttlesworth (a.k.a. Ray Allen) when he takes the floor. Complete floor game and make it look so easy.
NY2LASports.com #3 - DeShaun Thomas - 6'8" F Bishop Luers (IN) - Spiece Indy Heat
Multi-skilled and powerful forward prospect who's played with a target on his back for years. Skill set is solid and still has plenty of room to grow. Continues to perform at a high level and should be a big time impact player at the next level if he continues to develop in the coming years.
NY2LASports.com #4 - Jared Sullinger - 6'8" PF Northland Sr. H.S. (OH) - All Ohio
The most physically dominant interior prospect in the class. Big, strong, tough, and powerful. You might as well pencil in a double double every time he plays and chalk up 2-3 guys on your squad to foul trouble as well. If he gets it on the block in a position to score, forget about it. He flat out abuses guys in the post.
NY2LASports.com #5 - Harrison Barnes - 6'6" F Ames (IA) - All Iowa Attack
From the cornfields of Iowa grows the single best story of the 2008 year as we predicted over a year ago. The multi-skilled Barnes has the physical tools and skill set to become one of the best players to ever come out of the American heartland. Flat out gets it done both on and off the court and still has tons of room to grow and improve. Big time talent.
NY2LASports.com #6 - Josh Selby - 6'2" PG DeMatha Catholic (MD) - Team Melo
This kid might very well be the toughest player in the class pound for pound. Multi-skilled talent with the ability to breakdown defenses and stroke the jumper. Attacks the rim without fear on the offensive end and close to unstoppable when he gets it going. Big time talent on the offensive end with high major impact ability if he continues to develop.
NY2LASports.com #7 - Tristan Thompson - 6'8" F St. Benedict Prep (NJ) - Grassroots Canada
Already committed to Texas. One of the top forwards in the country continues to get it done whenever he takes the floor. A big time grab for UT as he has the physical tools and potential to become a monster at the collegiate level.
NY2LASports.com #8 - Jelan Kendrick - 6'6" PG Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy (GA) - Hoop Planet
Breakout performer this spring who continues to display exceptional talent whenever he takes the floor. Long frame and oozes with potential whenever he takes the floor. Excellent court awareness, can stroke the mid range, and can hit the trey ball. Excellent prospect on and off the floor and tons of room to grow in the coming years.
NY2LASports.com #9 - Melvin Tabb - 6'8" F Enloe (NC) - D-One Sports
Big strong powerful prospect who has the potential to become a dominant PF at the college level. Explosive athleticism, excellent strength, and has the ability to step away from the basket and put the ball on the floor. Very tough inside the paint and attacks the glass as well. Physical tools are big time and skill set continues to catch up. One of the most underrated prospects in the country nationally.
NY2LASports.com #10 - Crandall Head - 6'4" G Rich South (IL) - Mac Irvin Fire
One of the elite national prospects physically in terms of both size, length, and explosion. Continues to develop his perimeter game and ability to create on the offensive end. When he turns it on you can forget about it because he will get to the rack and finish on anyone. A combo guard at the time, I think he's got the tools and potential to become an exceptional PG and a big time impact player if he can put it all together.
